Promoting innovation
For the sustainable success of technical solutions - including robotics solutions - that are intended to support older people at home, it is of the utmost importance to have the development process of such technologies and their careful use accompanied and evaluated by the end users at a very early stage. It is just as necessary to look for examples of good practice internationally, especially in countries where demographic change is already more advanced (e.g. Japan), as it is to involve the end users in Switzerland in the adaptation of these examples for the Swiss market.
In order to establish this approach among business representatives for a successful introduction and implementation of the solutions they have developed, their involvement and targeted innovative start-up support is essential. For this purpose, the announcement of an Age Innovation Prize is planned (in 2023, 2024 and 2025). By awarding the Age Innovation Prize, innovative ideas from start-ups will be supported and promoted.
Ethical dimensions must also be taken into account to clarify whether and how certain technologies can be used in the outpatient and inpatient care sector. For example, any development and application of assistive technologies must ensure that they meet the needs of older people and promote and support their quality of life. In addition, they must respect the right of every person to privacy, security, self-determination and freedom. This requires guidance for scientists, developers and industry representatives who deal with the practical implementation of innovative technological solutions.
