Discourse on extended working life
The issue of extended working life should be discussed with the involvement of all key stakeholders.
The spectrum of forms of employment at retirement age moves between the extremes of maximum continuity with a seamless continuation of previous employment and maximum change.
The latter can mean, for example, that employment at retirement age entails a new occupational field or that, for example, self-employment replaces a previous employment relationship.
Many people and also some employers are not sufficiently aware of the range of possible forms of gainful employment. This is one of the reasons why the potential of the 65+ labour force is not being exploited. In this cluster, a public trade fair Working Worlds 65plus is therefore being designed by a stakeholder-organising committee and implemented under the coordination of the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BUAS). The trade fair is aimed at all stakeholders in the employment system as well as the general public. It is explicitly not intended to be an academic conference. Instead, it is intended to illustrate the variety of opportunities for gainful employment 65+ using very specific examples and to use various formats to enable citizens, working people aged 65+, employers, politicians as well as educational and research institutions to contribute to and exchange ideas on the topic of extended gainful employment. The trade fair is an opportunity for dialogue and is intended, among other things, to help confront and challenge stereotypical ideas about working people aged 65+.
